| Volunteers |
SNAAP relies heavily on volunteers for all of its services and without volunteers many of our events would not be able to run as we would not be able to provide the support and care that the individual children need. We therefore thank you for taking the time to look at this page and showing an interest in supporting us to make lives of disabled children and their families and easier and happier.
We have tried to answer any questions you may have about volunteering with us below to ensure your experience with us is enjoyable. If you feel there is something which is not covered below, please contact Natalie.
Keep up to date with volunteer opportunities with our Facebook page.
We require volunteers to support SNAAP staff by ensuring the children and young people are safe at all times and are all able to participate in the activities provided as best they can. This support can be given by helping to prepare activities/events, supervising activities, providing one to one support for those that need it, but most importantly ensure everybody has a good time. The roles will differ depending on the event and the activities provided.
Sports Club (Canterbury), Youth Club (Whitstable) After school club (Herne Bay)
We organise various activities during all school holidays, such as, family fun sessions, youth sessions and days out. Some of the events and activities are targeted at the whole family and some just for the disabled child allowing the family to have a short break.
Volunteers are also needed to help plan and organise regular fundraising activities. Being a charity it is a continual struggle to gain funds to enable us to continue our services. Having enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers coming up with new and fun ways to gain more funds would ensure that SNAAP are able to provide as many opportunities as possible for families to access a wide range of activities.
SNAAP work in a variety of venues in Canterbury, Whitstable, and Herne Bay. The venue used will be listed in the details on the specific opportunities below.

We run these every school holiday apart from Christmas. The whole family attend these sessions and the parents/carers are responsible for the children they bring. The children attending will be aged 0-13 years of age. Volunteers are needed to help staff oversee activities and areas such as craft and the soft play room.
These will be carrying out an activity such as cooking and gardening. These sessions the parents are able to leave their child with us so we take responsibility for the children whilst in our care. The age of the children vary depending on the activity but tends to be 5-13 years of age. Volunteers are needed to help children with the activity, on a one to one basis if needed, as well as assist with the running of the group, ensuring the children are safe and having fun.
These sessions are for our older members, aged 12-19 years. They are left in our care whilst the family get a short break. Volunteers are needed to help run games and activities, such as, cooking, craft and team games as well as ensure the young people are safe and enjoying the session.
This depends on the commitment that you sign up to with SNAAP. We generally ask that you attend at least 50% of the sessions a month to keep consistency for the children attending and the staff running the sessions. Please check the Specific Roles information that you can download below.
Whilst volunteering with us you will gain a wealth of experience through working with various disabilities in non-educational settings as well as with the wide age range.

SNAAP does require a commitment from volunteers once they have agreed to attend a session. We place our volunteers best suited to their abilities as well as the needs of the children. This may mean that you will be required to oversee an activity or work on a one to one with a child. If you do not attend without letting us know, this may heavily effect the event/activity.
Yes, SNAAP have had some very dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers as young as 13 years old. We will work very closely with these individuals to ensure they are comfortable and confident in the settings they assist with.
SNAAP requires volunteers to complete a registration form, medical consent form and agreement form. All of these can be downloaded below. These then need to be sent to Natalie at the SNAAP office at Windchimes. Once these forms have been received, Natalie will contact you to arrange a session for you to come along, meet the staff and children and get a feel for the group and get started with us.
If you attend CCCU or UKC, CRB’s can be gained at no cost to you through your volunteer coordinator (details below). If you have a current CRB (within the last year) Natalie will ask for some details from you. If you do not have a CRB, Natalie can arrange for you to get one, at no cost to you. You will be able to start with us prior to us receiving the CRB as you will be supervised by SNAAP staff at all times. It will also be your responsibility to make sure you are not left along with children at any time during our sessions.
