CEDAK provides an opportunity for disabled people in Kent to take part in archery. As well as attending coaching sessions at Valence School CEDAK will assist people to access local mainstream clubs and progress to a higher level in the sport. They specialise in helping disabled people get involved in the sport, and coach them to the level they aspire to.

The fun training sessions involve an introduction to various athletics events, including running, jumping and throwing. All coaches based at Ashford Athletics club are fully qualified. All participants must be accompanied by a parent/carer. Places are limited to 15 per session so please book a place in advance.

Margate Beach

Details Of Activity: Thanet CANDO are currently in negotiation with Thanet District Council to provide a safe, sectioned off, area of beach. This is intended to be open to families with children of all disabilities, providing a safe and secure area. At the moment it looks as if the safe area is a definite, possibly near the rock pool on Margate beach. A chalet may be provided, and there will be sports equipment in it, with Chris Gunn, a member of Thanet District Council providing disability sport activities at least once a week. Details Of Activity: Downland Cycles is a Cycle club for young people. The club sessions are every other Saturday from 2pm-3.30pm and they provide an opportunity for young people to ride in a safe traffic-free environment. The sessions encourage members to learn about road safety and how to maintain and fix their bicycle . There will also be opportnuties to take part in regular races and for older riders there are guided off road rides. The club has limited experience of special needs but they are willing to discuss individual's needs to assess whether they can accomodate them. Details Of Activity: The club is run on a voluntary basis which means players do not have to pay a fee to play and train. They use FA qualified coaches with disability certificate in Coaching and the club is run along FA guidelines. Coaching sessions take place on Sunday mornings during the football season. They meet on the first and third Saturday of the month from 12pm until 2.30pm at The Stour Leisure Centre. Typical sessions involve playing popular sports like cricket and tag rugby but the programme varies from week to week to keep the sessions interesting. Details Of Activity: The SNAAP sports club provides an opportunity for disabled children aged 8+ to participate in a range of sports activities. The sessions take place in the main sports hall although in the summer months it may be possible to use the outside facilities. The two-hour session takes place fornightly on a Friday from 3.30pm-5.30pm. The club is run by an experienced sports leader and volunteers. Regular activities include Badminton, Table Tennis, Trampolining and Boccia. In the second hour Canterbury City FC run a regular football training session. There are also regular guest coaches who run one-off sessions in activities such as Seated Volleyball, Fencing, Archery and Athletics. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the session if they want. Details Of Activity: The TADSAD Multi-Sport club incorporates a wide variety of sports for people with disabilities aged 12+. The club takes place from 7pm-9pm at Ramsgate Leisure Centre. Regular activities include table tennis, trampolining and Poi. Other sports are included as and when required to ensure we keep the interest of our members. This may be indoor bowls, indoor hockey or something completely different. At the same time on Friday there is a separate football training session at nearby Chatham House School. This takes place on floodlit astroturf pitches and is open to all ages and suits people with varying disabilities. This event is hosted by voluntary coaches who will help our members to improve their skills, but most importantly, to enjoy playing the game. Details Of Activity: The art of Poi is one of the many sports on offer at the Multi Sport meeting held on Fridays. POI Poi was used, many years ago, by the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand to increase their flexibility and strength in their hands and arms, as well as improving co-ordination. We hope it will bring the same improvement of co-ordination and increased flexibility to our members. Details Of Activity: Folkestone Ski Centre can facilitate skiing sessions on its dry Ski slope for children and young people of all abilities. Fully qualified instructors are on hand to offer private tuition and advice. On the last sunday of every month between September and May a Ski Club for the disabled takes place from 4pm-6pm. This is run by a qualified coach and caters for all levels of disability, with physically disabled children able to ride one of the toboggans with the aid of an instructor. Details Of Activity: Westebere Sailing Opportunities (WSO) are run by a dedicated team of volunteers with years of sailing experience. They have a fleet of 12 sailing dinghies which suit a range of abilities and enable participants to enjoy a safe, fun sailing experience. The aim of WSO is to offer the experience of sailing to those who through disability, might not be allowed the opportunity. A years individual membership costs just £15 which enables you to sail up to six times during the year. Details Of Activity: The SNAAP Inclusive Youth Club takes place at The Riverside Centre every second Wednesday from 6.30pm-8.30pm. It is open to all young people aged 11+. It has been running since April 2007 and is a great example of Inclusion in practice, allowing young people with disabilities to socialise alongside mainstream youngsters in a safe, non-judgemental atmosphere. The youth centre has pool tables, table tennis tables, an art room, dance studio, computer room and music room. Members can access any of these on a weekly basis as well as take part in regular cookery sessions. For those who prefer something a bit more active there is an outdoor six a side football pitch whic is used by members throughout the year. The charge for members is only 50p a week. It is a great opportunity to hang out with people your own age in a safe, fun environment. The centre has a pool table, Nintendo Wii, computer and art rooms and snack/drink machines.
